It was the famous philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau who once said, “the world of reality has its limits’ the world of imagination is boundless.” Creators around the world have used those words as inspiration and they still ring true today in the world of video production.

Whether it’s corporate videos, adverts, or brand stories, video production is all about conveying important information and insight to viewers. However, when it comes to explaining complex concepts, it can be tough to bring them to life through traditional real-world footage.

Animation is a wonderful way to break down these intricate details and create a compelling video that your audience will love. As a leading video production agency in Australia, we have used the technique to approach some incredibly complex topics and in this latest article, we take a closer look at a recent project we completed with Makinex

The challenge

We were tasked by Makinex to create a short video that would help them explain their range of renewable products and how they are helping to replace diesel generators on job sites across Australia. While that might sound like a straightforward project, it was actually incredibly complex as we needed to showcase how each of these products affected generator runtime, how much space they took up on job sites, and the CO2 reduction ability of each one… all in under a few minutes!

The solution

The biggest challenge would be trying to comprehensively explain these complex topics in a short and concise way. We decided to opt for a top-down perspective animation, as this would offer a birds-eye view of the job site and showcase how Makinex’s products interact and relate to each other. This provided a number of advantages, including:

  • Clarity and context

Allowing viewers to see the entire layout of a job site provided context that would have been difficult to achieve with traditional video or static images.

  • Visualising data

Complex data, such as generator runtimes and CO2 reduction metrics, can be hard to grasp when presented in text or static charts, whereas animation enables the dynamic representation of this data.

  • Engaging

Animation is inherently engaging, capturing the attention of viewers through movement, colour and storytelling. This helps to enhance information retention and keep your audience focused on the content.
